MISTERI GEN BANGSA MELAYU

Gadis ini mampu membaca sejarah Sriwijaya 500 tahun sebelum Masehi dan menterjemah tulisan-tulisan Mesir Purba dan maksud-maksud di dalam The Egyptian Book of The Dead, The Black Book dan The Golden Book of Scarab Ankh.

MELAYU – THE LOST TRIBE

  • UTARA (kemboja, cempaka, melati, petani, langkasuka, cermin, segenting)
  • TENGAH (kelantan, pahang, johor, melaka, kedah tua, selangor)
  • TIMUR (funan, okinawa, sulu,)

  • SELATAN (sumatera, riau, jawa)

Saya amat yakin kini bahawa golongan Illuminati sedang memerhatikan bangsa Melayu.

Wallahualam…

ANSWERS TO THE QUESTIONS ABOUT SULTANATE OF SULU DARUL ISLAM (SSDI)

What About SSDI?

Sultanate of Sulu Darul Islam (SSDI) is a Muslim Kingdom founded by Raja Baginda in 1405. The first institutionalized Sultan was Paduka Batara Mahasari Maulana Al-Sultan Shariful Hashim @ Sayyid Abu Bakar bin Ali Zainal Abidin Al-Husseini. The last internationally recognized Sultan was Jamalul Kiram II who died in 1936. Although unconquered by foreign invaders, SSDI was colonized by the USA through other means from 1900 and passed on to the Philippines in 1946 amidst vehement protests by the Tausug citizens of SSDI. SSDI recognizes all International Humanitarian Laws and the United Nations Charter.

What is the Form of SSDI Government?

SSDI shall adapt the Parliamentary Sultanate form of government. Parliamentary system is a responsive government, accountable to the people at all times, an accountability that is not subject to popular caprice, rather, one based on major issues of national policy and readily adapts in the people. When issues are debated in Parliament, thorough scrutiny and fiscalization of administration, policies are assured. This form of government is predicted to show the viability of political and economic development for the entire Tausug peoples – free from all forms of foreign domination and subjugation.

How will SSDI derive Her Sustenance?

SSDI is known scientifically to be rich in various valuable minerals and natural resources, such as Oil beneath the Sulu Sea, Gold, Silver, Manganese, Cooper, Kerosene, etc. in different parts of the archipelago. These, not to mention the wealth and assets of the SSDI stashed in several banking institutions worldwide, are enough to ensure the viability and sustainability of the government and sovereignty of the Sultanate of Sulu Darul Islam.

What is a Tausug and who are the Tausugs?

Tausug is the nationality of the citizens of the Sultanate of Sulu Darul Islam, whether they are ethnically: Bajao, Baklaya, Banjar, Bisaya, Buranun, Chavacano, Idaan, Iranun, Jama Mapun, Kalibugan, Molbog, Palawanon, Sama, Subanon, Tagimaha, Yakan, and others (in like manner that Filipino is a mixture of scores of ethnic groups throughout the Philippines).

What is UTC and UTP?

UTC or United Tausug Citizen and UTP or United Tausug People are ‘two faces of the same coin’, both of which signify the citizens of the sovereign Sultanate of Sulu Darul Islam. The only difference, (if at all it is) is that the UTC was originally formed in Sabah (Malaysia) while the UTP was coined by a SSDI worker in Jolo to distinguish the Tausugs of Sulu archipelago from those in Sabah (who are also originally from Sulu). SSDI has resolved not to recognize those who claimed to be UTP but identified themselves with splinter groups other than the main or legitimate SSDI led by HRH Sultan Bantilan Muhammad Muizzuddin II.

What is the Difference Between UTC and other Groups?

Basically a non-combatant group and an advocate of non-violence, the United Tausug Citizens are the supporters of the SSDI who only want to see a peaceful transition of their national sovereignty and independence from the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) to the Sultanate of Sulu Darul Islam. The UTC, however, reserved the right to retaliate to every kind of provocation being hurled against them.

How to Achieve SSDI Independence through Peaceful Transition?

SSDI has been issuing Birth Certificates to all Tausugs, Citizens of the Sultanate of Sulu Darul Islam, who want to reclaim and reassert their independence from the GRP. SSDI Independence can be achieved when the TAUSUG CITIZENS unite with one voice to reassert the sovereign status of the SSDI, and demand the withdrawal of the GRP from their territory. All historical accounts point to the fact that the SSDI is an unconquered Kingdom and therefore retains her inalienable rights of sovereignty, self-determination and independence.

What is the role of the USA in SSDI?

The Americans have a great responsibility to rewrite the history of Tausug and to give justice where it is due. Not only that the Sulu Archipelago contains valuable minerals and resources vital for USA and SSDI mutual interests, the USA have a responsibility to right the wrongs they had done in this part of the world. They violated bilateral Agreements between SSDI and USA (Bates Treaty and Carpenter Agreement) by unilaterally abrogating both and by ceding SSDI without the consent of the Sultan and the Tausugs to become a colony of the GRP in 1946.

Will the UN Entertain the Tausug Demands?

The world, through the United Nations, is not averse to the fact that the Tausugs of the Sultanate of Sulu Darul Islam are victims of colonial subjugation. As an unconquered people and kingdom forced by circumstance to be colonized by the GRP in 1946, amidst vehement protests and resentments along with other Moro groups in Mindanao, SSDI’s history is alive in the archives of many older UN-member nations, especially the superpowers and members of the UN Security Council. The UN Commission on Decolonization of 1960 fits hand-in-glove with the status of SSDI that deserved to become independent along with the new States of East Timor (Timor Leste), Kosovo and others. The UN is a highly esteemed world organization which will not swallow back a policy that has been already accepted by its member-nations.

Why SSDI Advocated Non-Violence, No-War Policy?

The Sultanate of Sulu Darul Islam is cognizant of the fact that war or violence has been the main cause for the Tausug being uprooted from their homes that resulted in the proliferation of internal and external refugees with as many as half-a-million having crossed over the border to Sabah and other neighbouring countries. War also gives ample opportunities for the adversary to decide on whatever course of action deemed necessary by the colonial government to suppress the inalienable rights of its colony like the SSDI. The war advocated by the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) against the GRP did not achieve any positive gain or relief to the Tausug and Moro Causes. On the contrary, it only brought more pain and misery to the SSDI and Moro struggle for self-determination and independence.

Why SSDI Should Lead the Way to Independence?

The Sultanate of Sulu Darul Islam is the only recognized sovereign entity of the Tausug and Moro people of Mindanao and the Sulu Archipelago. Spain and USA should never have included SSDI in the transactions of the 1898 Treaty of Paris. Spain never had complete sovereignty over the SSDI. The Bates Treaty and Carpenter Agreement between SSDI and the United States of America (USA) in early 1900, which the latter unilaterally abrogated, are testimony to the fact that SSDI is a sovereign state. For that matter, it is only logical that SSDI lead the Movement for Independence of her own predetermined parameters and territory.

Why Mindanao Cannot be Included in SSDI?

Mindanao is not a part of the Sultanate of Sulu Darul Islam. It belonged to a separate kingdom, the Maguindanao Sultanate which, for around two centuries, was ruled contemporarily with SSDI by the Sultans of Maguindanao. The Maguindanao and Maranao peoples of Mindanao are the proud descendants of the once sovereign Sultanate of Maguindanao, the coverage of which stretches almost over the whole of Mindanao up to parts of the Visayas and was highly recognized by European and Western powers of that time.

Who Should Govern the SSDI?

Where SSDI is concerned, it should be governed by the legitimate Sultan of Sulu, as was always the case since its inception in the 15th Century. The Sultan has always been acting as the vicegerent of Allah within the territory. Therefore, unless the Constitution is overhauled, to change the form of government, the Sultan should always be the head of government and commander-in-chief of the Rosul Armed Forces, not as any Royal lineage claimed to be, but as the Constitution and majority of Tausug citizens indorse and/or decide for themselves.

Who Should be the Legitimate Sultan of SSDI?

No one has the monopoly to be the legitimate Sultan of Sulu. The succession and the right to ascend the throne have to be determined by both the Rumah Bichara (Parliament) and the Council of Ministers in accordance with tradition. For now, the Sultan that the Tausug citizens have supported is Sultan Bantilan Muhammad Muizzuddin II @ Datu Ladjamura bin Datu Wasik Aranan, from the lineage of the Second Heir to the SSDI Throne.

What or who is the Council of Ministers?

The Council of Ministers is composed of senior leaders, prominent Datus and Sharifs of SSDI who are either nominated by a group of citizens and/or appointed by the Sultan to the Rumah Bichara or Parliament. They legislate laws based on the Holy Qur’an, Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and cultural tradition of Tausugs for the benefit of the people and government of SSDI.

What is the Status of Sabah within the Sovereign SSDI?

Historically, Sabah belongs to the Sultanate of Sulu. But as it has been administered and developed by Malaysia for over four decades, its status shall be the subject of a bilateral negotiation between the brotherly States of SSDI and Malaysia, in relation to the “Lease Agreement” entered into by the Sultan of Sulu and the British Company or Institution in the 18th century or so ago.

What is the Territory Covered by SSDI?

1.Basilan Islands

2.North Borneo and islands

3.Palawan Islands (including the Spratlys)

4.Sulu Islands

5.Tawi-Tawi Islands and

6.Zamboanga Peninsula and islands

What is the Significance of November 17, 2010 Declaration?

As a matter of fact, the Sultanate of Sulu Darul Islam has always been a Sovereign or Independent nation since inception in the 15th Century, but was submerged under colonial subjugation, treachery and deceit from the dawn of the 20th century until formally colonized in 1946. November 17, 2010 marked the 605th Anniversary and Declaration of Reassertion of Independence and Sovereignty of the Sultanate of Sulu Darul Islam from decades of colonial strangulation and subjugation. Having matured over the years, SSDI is now ready to embark on the full restoration of her sovereignty as an independent Constitutional Sultanate, free from the colonial stranglehold of the Republic of the Philippines.

What is the Prospect of UN Recognition of SSDI Independence?

The UN recognition of SSDI is a certain reality. In fact, the UN must be wondering why SSDI has not made any effort to reassert her independence, since the Decolonization Commission was set up in 1960. But whether the UN recognition of SSDI Independence comes sooner or later, the SSDI has already resolved to implement the government of her choice within her territorial integrity and national sovereignty mentioned above. Due to the fact that there are several Tausug citizens living in quandary as refugees in diaspora abroad and as “internally displaced people” all over the Sulu archipelago, who the GRP seemed to have no more concern over their resettlement for good, SSDI can no longer rely on the GRP whims and caprice to change the course of the Tausug people’s future, the great majority of whom no longer wanted to be identified as Filipinos.

What Currency will the SSDI Government Use?

Praised be Allah, the Most Beneficent, Most Merciful, the Government and People of the Sultanate of Sulu Darul Islam have decided to use Gold Dinar and Silver Dirham as her official currency to be known as “PILAK TAUSUG” or ‘PL’ for short. One Pilak (PL) Dinar is approximately equivalent to US$200; and One PL Dirham is around US$5.00. The exact rate of exchange of which shall be fixed later.

What About the Status of Non-Muslim Minorities within SSDI?

Sabily : Looking at a Muslim-oriented Linux Distribution of Linux:

Sabily is an operating system, like
MS Windows or Mac OS X. Without an operating system, a computer is unusable, and Windows is not the only OS available!

As Sabily is free, and already includes all software one needs in one’s everyday tasks, and its customized specifically for Muslims. And though one doesnt buy licensed Windows (as is the case most of the time in the Philippines,One should not use pirated copies because then it means supporting Microsoft by adding to the impression it’s the only OS available.
Where is Sabily Based?
Its dervied from the
Ubuntu operating system as a groundwork. Ubuntu is a GNU/Linux distribution whose goal is to provide an easy-to-use, up-to-date, stable and free system, also for companies. Sabily customizes Ubuntu by removing, modifying and adding software, and also customizes the graphic design to make a system adapted to Muslims.
There might be a question as to if there is company like Microsoft which develops Sabily?
Since it was built by a community of voluntaries coming from all over the world (France, Tunisia, Egypt, Indonesia etc.). The maintenance of this software depends on this community, but one can as well participate, as a developer, a graphic designer, a tester or if simply just to share ideas.
What are the main features of Sabily?
The main software are:
Zekr and Mus-haf Othman (Quran study tools), Minbar and Firefox-praytimes (prayer times applications), Monajat (application that popups prayers every predetermined time), Hijra (islamic calendar) and WebStrict (parental control tool). Arabic language is also well supported. And of course the graphic design is also customized (see screenshots).
What other software are included in Sabily?
OpenOffice (word processor, spreasheet, presentation), Firefox (web browser), Pidgin (instant messaging), F-spot (photos management), Gimp (image manipulation program) and other multimedia software (video/audio). All of this in included in the “small” version of Sabily, but the “full” version contains dozens of other software! (educational software, tools and entire Quran recitations.

One simply has to download the ISO file and to burn it on a DVD, then to start your computer from the DVD. You will have the choice to test or to install the system. In a first time it is advised to test it because it is safe for the computer, nothing will be written on the hard disk. Sabilycan be even tested directly from Windows, by using a Virtual Box image.

It used to be called Ubuntu Muslim Edition but the name was later changed perhaps due to the feedback of some of its users.

Here are some of the features available on its 10.04 series (following the standard *buntu release system:
F-Spot replaces the GIMP
PiTiVi video editor added
GNOME 2.30
New themes: Ambiance and Radiance
New wallpaper
Linux kernel 2.6.32
New nVidia hardware driver
Gwibber social media application
Faster boot time, with a different look and feel on the bootsplash screen
Ubuntu One adds contacts and bookmark sharing
Ubuntu One music store integrated into Rhythmbox
Ubuntu Software Center 2.0
For those who aren’t familiar with them, Zekr and Thawab are Quranic study tools. The parental controls use Gnome Nanny to filter the web, email, etc. Based on what I saw of it, Gnome Nanny looked like a reasonably good parental filter. Muslim parents will have to be the final judge of whether or not it’s really enough to make the Internet safe for Muslim children.
It stumbles a bit though when it doesn’t always provide native language translations of some of the Arabic content.
Since it’s based on Ubuntu, Sabily is fine for beginner, intermediate or advanced Linux users.
For Muslims who have computers and have children around, one definitely give Sabily a download.
Summary Table:
Name of distribution:
Ubuntu Muslim Edition (Sabily) 10.04
Web Site:
Price:
Free
Pros:
Excellent selection of software, including some very useful Islamic applications. Beautiful selection of screensavers, as well as attractive Islamic wallpaper.
Cons:
Leans too heavily on the Arabic language and doesn’t always provide English translations in applications for those who don’t read or speak Arabic.
Suitable For:
Beginner, intermediate or advanced users.
Summary:
Sabily 10.04 is a fine update for anyone looking for a Muslim version of Ubuntu. It takes all of Ubuntu 10.04′s new features and gives them an Islamic flavor.
Rating:

I live with cats. When I told friends that I was going to get myself a cat –a longhaired Persian at that—they were concerned because it was not the best pet choice for somebody asthmatic like myself. “But I want a cat, I always liked cats.” I was adamant. According to them, there were simpler ways to aggravate my lung condition that won’t cost me an arm and a leg. “Like standing on EDSA eight hours a day for a week, inhaling toxic fumes from passing vehicles,” they suggested. But I persisted. A few days later I took home a male and ginger fur ball. I named him Natarajan Beckham.
Natarajan was derived from a character in Amulya Malladi’s novel The Mango Season, which I was reading at that time, and, to commemorate the 2006 World Cup, I gave my cat the last name of my favorite soccer player.
Nate, as I fondly call him, turns 5 years old today. He’s grown large with shiny orange hair. He likes to imitate me. He prefers sleeping flat on his back –legs spread out, tummy exposed— like his human. He spends more and more time in front of the computer. I won’t be surprised that one day he’ll be writing my essays for me. I spoil him silly. I refuse to refer to my cat with the pronoun it, preferring the masculine pronoun he. When I am out of the house and people would ask, “Sinong tao sa bahay mo?” I would assure them that the house is safe because, “Si Nate ang tao doon.” He’s a member of my family.

letting go

I’ve been stalling a farewell the entire week. This afternoon however I could no longer derail the inevitable. It all started when my friend Wadilkhaery sent me an SMS last Sunday asking if I still have a kitten available for sale or adoption.

HELPFUL TIPS FOR FIRST-TIME TOURISTS to SULU ISLANDS

By Ahmad Musahari

asmusahari@gmail.com

Following my post on “The hidden beauty of Sulu”, a number of friends have appreciated the great scenes Sulu has. (That was my goal, from the beginning!) And I am happy for that. I became happier when some ‘new’ friends had emailed me asking information on how to reach the island and some had thought of the intention of paying my little homeland a visit. They want to witness those fascinating scenes with their own eyes!

And then comes their inevitable curiosity about the “safety” of going to Sulu. ‘IS IT STILL SAFE TO VISIT YOUR PLACE?’, ‘SHOULD I WEAR TANDUNG/TURUNGS?’, ‘DO TAUSUGS UNDERSTAND ENGLISH?’, and an endless list of questions. So I end up doing this list of helpful and friendly TIPS FOR FIRST-TIME TOURISTS to SULU ISLANDS. I hope this would help the people out there and let a ‘new light’ penetrate their minds. Indeed Sulu is more peaceful that what the NEWS say.

See you in SULU!

WHAT TO BRING:

  • The Basics, of course! Your clothes, some belongings, some money and ATM cards, ID’s (don’t forget this one) and your electronics. Other people can’t live (and leave) without it, so you should, too.
  • A handy Camera. You don’t want to miss seeing some wonderful scenes without saving some photos as keep as souvenirs. From fascinating landscapes to people’s daily lives and culture, you just can’t help discovering new things here! (The camera would include its batteries, and extra batteries; films or SD Cards; and chargers, too).
  • A notebook or journal to write something about every time you experience new things. (It can also work as a ‘scribbling’ page for you while waiting for a long line at the bank). 🙂Seriously.
  • Sulu Archipelago is a group of small islands and known for its white sand beaches. As first-time visitors, visiting the beaches and swimming (of course) is an inevitable temptation. So be ready with your swimming wears (please read the “WHAT to wear” section first). Swimming-for-dummies book/manuals and some sun-blocks would also be helpful.
  • Learn the local dialect of the people to understand more about their culture. You can buy a Tausug-English dictionary (if you are lucky to find one in town) or simply search the net for common “Tausug Words” and print a copy. Please do this step before going to Sulu, more preferred if you are still in Zamboanga City or other “Cities”.
  • You might want to decide whether to bring your laptop for the following reasons:

o There are no ‘strong’ internet connections in most areas in Sulu. (I could even say there is no internet connection, even broadbands!) So be ready to say bye-bye to your facebook friends and be sure to finish all your IMPORTANT ‘web-transactions’ before going to Sulu. Cellphone networks are good in the central town of Jolo, but not much in other districts. So ask the locals which ‘servers’ (either Smart or Globe/TM) are available in a certain place you want to go to, before deciding so.

o In more rural areas, electricity is still a scarcity. Some islands have ‘time-rations’ of opening their electricity and some do not have any. Jolo town and nearby areas and even islands (nowadays) are having good electricity recently, so it’s not much of a worry, actually.

o Snatching? I am proud to say, we do not have such thing. You just have to take care of your belongings of course, for safety measures. (I believe Laptops are good ways to elevate the ‘boredom’ at ties you got nothing to do.J)

  • You can bring a map. But I tell you, you will only find a green ‘peanut-shape’ map with some markings and names of municipalities. You are already lucky if you found one with the ‘streets’ of the central town of Jolo. I hardly find ‘road maps’ in Sulu, perhaps there were no roads to ‘map’ about in the first place (just kidding).
  • Yes, of course. At least bring SOMEONE who had been to Sulu, or someone who knows the place. Losing your way back home is the worst thing you can be in. Don’t even think about it. Someone knowledgeable about the local dialect, the historical scenes and the beautiful landmarks in Sulu is more preferable. Although you can find that ‘someone’ hard to find in the area (only a few cares about our historical landmarks and tourism). But it is still better to have a company with you than being alone to wander around this new place.

WHAT TO WEAR? (Especially for non-Muslims)

Sulu is a place populated by 98% Muslim (based on my own statistics), so it is quite a big question for non-muslims visiting Sulu whether or not to wear the traditional/Muslim attire to better blend with the locals. “Are there restrictions?” and the funniest-yet-quite-true question I got, “Won’t they (the Abus) kidnap me after knowing that I am a Christian?” Well, this is the end of your woes. I have some tips about ‘what to wear’ when you are in Sulu.

  • To wear Tandung/Turung or not? If you are having the idea of “being kidnapped if you are a Christian” at the back of your mind, keep it on ‘that’ place for it is not entirely TRUE.
  • Sulu is a place open for all religion. The people of Sulu (The Tausugs) respect other people’s beliefs. We even have a big cathedral right at the center of the town! So long as it is not ‘crossing’ the line, anyone having his/her own way of praying can do it in peace. That, I can give you my word. The ‘kidnapping’ things are only an exaggeration of the Media.
So you can still visit Sulu even without wearing the local costumes (I mean the ‘Turung’). It might even be a better way to let the locals know that some people are here to visit. But of course, it would be a great experience for our female visitors to experience wearing a ‘turung’ and learn the culture we have in Sulu!
  • No SHORTS, BIKINIS and other ‘Suggestive’ shirts (if I got the word right) even at BEACH. (in connection with the above pointers)

Muslims are quite sensitive in terms of ‘what you wear’, (particularly on what you let other people see) and the locals do not appreciate such way of clothing. Not that we are restricting one’s choice of clothing, we simply don’t want any misconceptions to occur during your stay in the area. Long pants and long-sleeve shirts won’t harm your adventurous visit in the island. And it won’t hurt the area’s culture, too. It’s a win-win gameJ.

NOW WHERE TO GO? (The most exciting one)

Of course, the reason behind going on a tour to Sulu is to TOUR IT—what else? So here are some helpful tips you might want to put in your checklist and some of the breath-taking landmarks you can find only here in this small island of Sulu. So after finding a good place to stay and after deciding how many days you’ll spend in Sulu, the next step is ‘Where to go’. And here we go!

  • Ask the authorities first. If you don’t know where to start, try visiting the Provincial Capitol first. There are a lot of things they know that is not in this list. So that is my first tip. (By the way, a visit to the Provincial Park would be a good start for your adventure. It is already a pride of Sulu.

But if you already found the ‘someone’ I am referring earlier (the tourist guide, and someone you REALLY know), there no need troubling yourself. Start the journey ahead!

  • Be sure it is safe! Of course your safety is still your priority. You won’t enjoy the memories of visiting Sulu if you already lost your arms. (Again, I am just kidding. I’m just making this Sulu-is-a-morbid-place more of a joke). Be sure to have someone accompany you everywhere you go. If you are capable enough, you can hire some security guards, but that would remove the ‘enjoyment’ I think.

You can explore the central town of Jolo first (which is the safest and nearest), then the nearby areas (the safer ones) and lastly the farther islands (the safe ones). There is no less-dangerous or most-dangerous here.

  • If going to farther areas (such as islands and islets), be sure you know the following:

o Where to stay;

o What are the schedules of trips (usually it’s by ships or smaller boats, and it’s not always every day…);

o Is there electricity in the area;

o Are there cell-phone networks;

o Any establishments present? (Police quarters, hospitals, and such. Which is rare in smaller islands by the way)

o Know the area.

o The people of Sulu (and the islands) are hospitable, you can always ask them J

  • Finally, the areas to visit.

Note: This list is only based on the author’s knowledge of the place (as a local Tausug) and may not include all the good places therein. Some places herein are also uncommonly heard of by the locals, or even by the authorities because of lack of information regarding the landmarks. I will categorize the list by its nearness (and perhaps by ‘safeness’) to the central Town of Jolo, where to find them, and given the time I might also include the distance (how far from Jolo), time (how many hours) and the ways (by sea or land) to go there (I will update this later, so keep posted).

Without much ado, here are the places you MUST NOT DARE TO MISS.

  • In the vicinity of Jolo Town, Sulu:

1. Masjid Tulay (A magnificent mosque)

2. The remaining walls of Jolo Walled City (Since Spanish times, but unrecorded/undiscovered)

3. The Three remaining Spanish ‘Towers’ (see my other blogpost, still undiscovered)

4. Chinese Pier (not so Chinese now, but still holds its History)

5. PC Asturias Camp (I found the old cannon here, undiscovered. There’s also a pool)

6. The Jolo Central Cathedral (I don’t know its name, sorry)

7. The Rizal Central Park (where Sundays are “Juwalmura day”, an equivalent of ‘ukay-ukay’)

8. Sulu Pier (A good place to wait for the Sulu Sunset J)

9. Tulay Bridge (“Tulay” means ‘bridge’, a redundancy just like ‘Lake Lanao’. J)

10. Serantes Wet Market (Sulu is famous for its wide variety of fishes)

11. Tabuh Sanaw” Market (It’s an early morning market that only opens from 5AM to 7AM)

12. Jolo town (It’s a simple town to explore aroundJ)

a. There are also some good restaurants you can visit: the Lovelife and McMickey Restaurants are the locals’ favorites. Before sunsets, some stalls can be found scattered around town (at the pier, outside the pier, at the airport and at the central parks). A short snack in these places is a good way to cool-off a tiring day.

b. Afternoon break in the town’s favorite kind of snack houses: the Coffee shops or “Kahawahan”, is a must for new visitors. (You can find them anywhere in town!) The famous Tausug “Kahawa Itum” (Native Coffee) with the uniqueTausug Pastries or “Bang-bang Sug” is a good way to explore the culture and food cuisines in the island.

  • A little farther from Jolo town (one jeepney rid; nos. 1 to 5 are on the same area)

1. The Sulu Provincial Capitol

2. Sulu Provincial Park (Try visiting at about 5PM until 8PM, wait for a surprise.)

3. National Museum (with some good info about the History of Sulu)

4. A new Park they call ‘Balikatan Park’ (I don’t like the name)

5. Mindanao State University-Sulu Campus (My alma matter)

6. Sulu State College (A nice place, too)

7. Notre Dame of Jolo College

8. Mauhbuh Beach (the one in my blog)

9. Gandasuli Water-Spring (Tubig Bustak, I’m not even sure if it’s a Spring)

10. Some beaches nearby (Again I forgot the names, haha)

11. Sultan Kiram Residence (where the Kiram Hastana still stands and a ‘tomb-mark’ for Princess Tarhata Kiram can be found)

12. Jun’Dilan Sea Port

13. Jolo Airport (there are also some snack areas here by late afternoons)

14. Sahaya Village (It’s a housing project, with some peaceful area)

  • The FARTHEST YET MOST FASCINATING PLACES

1. The famous QUEZON BEACH or Igasan Beach in Patikul (white, smooth sands)

2. The heart-shaped Si-it Lake in Panamao (never been thereL)

3. The towering Bud Tumantangis (“Bud” means ‘mountain’; this is the highest peak in Sulu. A nice place for mountaineers. You can have an over-view of Jolo town and the vast Sulu Sea!)

4. Bud Datu (where once, the Datu’s where enthroned)

5. The Active Bud Dahu (Not a good place to visit if it’s at the active state, though. This is also where the well-known “Bud-Dahu Massacre in 1904 occurred).

In other Islands

1. Siasi and Pandami Islands (about 3-4 hours)

2. Pangutaran Island (4 hours)

3. Usman Beach in Sigang-gang Island

AND A LOT MORE!

(It’s just that I do not know more about those ‘a-lot-more’ places in my Homeland.)

I would love to include another section in this long list of tips, (entitled, ‘what to expect’) but I found it already ‘tiring’. This list seem to have already served its point: to give light to those who are willing to visit our small island but do not know anything about it.

I hope this list helped somehow.

Kamaya kamu daran! (Ingat Kayo Lagi/ Take care always)

Magsukul tuud ha waktu niyu! (Salamat talaga sa oras niyo/thank you very much for the time)

Iban Salam Kasilasa daing ha Lupah Sug! (And Peace and Love from the Land of Current: Sulu.)

Salamdua! (Peace!)

This is your loving TOURIST GUIDE, Ahmad Musahari, a young Tausug proud to introduce to you the hidden pearl of the southern seas: SULU ARCHIPELAGO (Lupah Sug)!

SULU: Its hidden Beauty

By Ahmad MusahariFrelance Writer, A Tausugasmusahari@gmail.comSulu had always been the “War Zone” in Southern Philippines. In fact, the name of the province itself was linked with the thoughts of the common people as “Conflict-ridden”, “Unstable”, “fil…
