ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/22 April) – Police have yet to determine the motive behind the ambush Saturday that injured a barangay official and his wife in Bayog town, Zamboanga del Sur.

The victims were identified as Barangay Kagawad Marcelino Legal, 41, of Bantal, Bayog town, and his wife, Lorna, 32, a barangay health worker.

Senior Inspector Gaspar Gadingan, Bayog police chief, said Sunday they are looking into all possible motives that would help them identify the ambush suspect.

“Nag-iisa lang ang (There’s only one) suspect based on our initial investigation,” Gaspar added.

The police official disclosed that among the motives being looked into is whether it is work-related or politically motivated.

He said the couple, who are residents of Purok Tres, Bantal, was aboard a motorcycle on the way home around 7 a.m. Saturday when the lone assailant ambushed them at Purok Dos of the same barangay.

He said the barangay official was scheduled to undergo surgery although his wounds were not serious. (MindaNews)
