Comelec disqualifies Grace Poe from 2016 elections

Poe is out of the 2016 presidential race for not meeting the residency requirement – The Commission on Elections (Comelec).

In a breaking news this afternoon, the Commission on Elections said, Grace Poe failed to satisfy the residency requirement set by the constitution for presidential candidates.

According to the constitution, a presidential aspirant must have had resided the country for at least 10 years.

 The voting was conducted by the Comelec second division, which is comprised by members Commissioners Al Parreño, Arthur Lim, and Sheriff Abas.

It was 3-0 in favor of the petition filed by lawyer Estrella Elamparo, seeking for the cancellation of Poe’s certificate of candidacy for president.

Poe’s camp said, it will file an appeal with the Comelec en banc.
