Chiz Escudero to government: respond to Mindanao’s concerns quickly

The post Chiz Escudero to government: respond to Mindanao’s concerns quickly appeared first on Multi Awarded Lifestyle And Travel Blog.

Following the successive bombings of NGCP towers here in Mindanao and even the lack of water (the Zamboanga City Water District has announced water rationing starting January 7, 2016!), I’m glad that Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero has called on the national government to focus its attention and support for the people of Mindanao. “Malacanang should have all hands on-deck with regard to the problems currently besetting Mindanao. The list is getting alarmingly long and there is apparently no end in sight for many of these problems,” said Escudero, the frontrunner in various vice-presidential preference surveys. Foremost among Escudero’s concerns was

Clean low cost electricity in Philippines? Yes!

I have so much respect for people and organizations that champion alternative sources of energy for clean and reliable electrical power production! Currently, we depend largely on hydropower plants. Some electric cooperatives also use several solar panels to augment their sources of energy (Cagayan de Oro’s CEPALCO has a solar panel area) and we all […]

Enter the “Balwarte” of the Jalosjos clan – Zamboanga

A few weeks ago, I joined a Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ) – organized workshop. Media practitioners from all over Mindanao attended it. I think Mindanaoan was the only one from the “non-traditional” or online media community. Anyways, I met some Zamboanga-based journalists and they all shared the current political landscape in their area. […]

Ako si Musingan, Laking Zamboanga City

Magulo, nakakatakot, madaming rebelde,

nagmamahalan kami, at nagtutulungan.

BANKO – sinasabi nila, matatawag mo

De Zamboanga University, Western Mindanao State University at Unibersidad De

wikang tausug, bisaya, iyakan, paminsan-minsan maranao, at iba pang wika tulad

Pilar College of Zamboanga City Revokes Hijab Ban

Assalamu Alaikum.

Earlier this morning, I received an email from the petition I signed online containing the revocation of the hijab ban of Pilar College in Zamboanga City. If we can remember, this ban cause controversy all over the world specifically in the world wide web wherein Muslims cried for revocation of such. Alhamdulillah and Allahu Akbar for this very good news.

Exact copy of the email:

Your signature’s incredible impact

Congratulations! Pilar College has agreed to allow its Muslim students to wear their hijabs to school. The school said in a joint statement with the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) that they will also implement programs to strengthen Muslim and Christian understanding and relations with the assistance of NCMF. You’ve helped ensure that students will no longer feel discriminated against based on their religion or class.

You can thank Pilar College and NCMF on Facebook! Write on their walls.

Broke barriers

NCMF Sec. Mehol Sadain presented your petition to participants in an intensive dialogue last Friday and he said your voices was of great help to the cause because they came from a cross section of society, Muslim and Christian alike.
“It broke the religious barrier that has been set up between the pro and anti-hijab groups when the issue came out in the open. (The petition) was well-received by the RVM nuns. I congratulate Change.org members for such a laudable effort and Ms. Janina Pangilinan for initiating the petition.” – Sec. Sadain

Thank you

Nur Danial, one of the leaders of the Right to Hijab Movement in Zamboanga City, thanks you for making this victory possible. He said that the use of online people power made an invaluable contribution to this multi-stakeholder effort.

“The strong determination of the Right to Hijab Movement and the Muslim ummah as a whole, and the support of the non-Muslims also through Change.org online petition led the victory and positive change in the society.” – Nur

Small steps to big change

Janina’s petition, and your victory, prove that people from different parts of the country can get together and help make real change – improving people’s lives.
“This wouldn’t be possible if people turned a blind eye on the plight of the Muslim students in Pilar College. For some, allowing students to wear their hijabs may seem too small a gesture, but in the whole scheme of things, I believe this can be a significant step in putting an end to all types of discrimination against Muslims in the Philippines.” – Janina

What do you want to change?

Janina and these Pilar College students prove that you don’t need to move mountains to make change. It takes less than three minutes to start a petition on Change.org. And just like this campaign, which you signed and won, you can make a difference and inspire people to do the same.

Thanks for taking action,
Christine and the Change.org Team

Alhamdulillah for this victory. I am hoping for more hijabis from Pilar College after this revocation. 🙂
